I
guess we start on how we finally ended up going on a tour to Malang. Our study
program has wanted to go somewhere for quite a while. And after a lot of hard
work, we finally have the permission and funding from the University to go on a
trip. This trip is genuinely relaxing in many ways, and we still learn a thing
or two in the process.
On Sunday February 5th, most
of my classmates meet up at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport for our 6 in the morning
flight. Tiredly, we departed right on time and arrived on Malang. We are
greeted warmly by the tour leader, Mr. Sigit Pramono. With the means of transportation
of busses, we made our way to the first stop.
Tridi
and Warna-warni village is a local village located on Brantas riverbanks, once
famous for their dirty and vile environment. But now with the help of the
locals, these villages now turned into tourist trap hole. The rooftop is filled
with bright colors and the walls are drawn with cute and cool drawings.
This is Malang, not Brazil

Our second stop is the 3G village or the Glintung Go Green village. Glintung once had a really high mortality, now they are successfully bearing the name of Indonesia on an international level. We learn about the village water saving movement, hydroponics and many more! Here I met the head of hamlets of Glintung village Ir. H. Bambang Irianto. He is a very inspiring person, someone who can kindle the heart of the people!
Monday
February 6th are filled with visits to universities. Our journey
that day started at 9 AM, and we went to Brawijaya University. We met the head
of the study program of Entrepreneurship. We also met the entrepreneurs of
Brawijaya University. One of them sells cushion for the locals. After that, we went
to Machung University to see their Malang Digital Core (MDC) which looks pretty
sweet!

Day 3 and the last day in Malang, we visit Pelangi Nusantara. This place here is easily one of my favorites.
A whole cabinet and wall
dedicated for the trophy and plaque they won.

Pelangi Nusantara outstandingly achieves their goals to give power to the local men and women. They’re the conclusive evidence that the people of Indonesia – even the one from the small villages – are able to do big stuff, things that made the country proud.
That
following night, the whole group checkout from our hotel room and went straight
for Mount Bromo to catch the sunrise there! But fog hits us hard. We
can’t see the sunrise at all, and everything is wet which makes it extremely
dangerous even to just climb up the stairs. But the cold weather doesn’t affect
my burning passion to climb the famous 250 stairs up to the crater of Mount
Bromo! After we went up the horrific stairs, we finally made it to the top! And
oh god, I didn’t think the sulphur would smell that bad!
I thought I beaten Mount Bromo, but this picture told
me otherwise

I can not say enough good things about our amazing trip to Malang and Mount Bromo. All of this thanks to everyone from the Entrepreneurship program studies, the lecturers as well as the students – thank you! And of course, the tour guide team who made each day of the trip a delight and joy. They put a lot of effort into their job and took care of any problem or question anyone had. This has been an unbelievable trip for me, unimaginable!
